“Before using the Fulcrum, we relied on a combination of verniers, micrometers, height gauges, a 3D scanner, and traditional engineering skills. We would 3D print a prototype and check the fit before moving to production. However, while the 3D scanner was effective, it lacked the resolution to capture tiny hole centers and finer details. For components like brake and clutch levers, even a 0.1mm discrepancy could impact function and alignment with microswitches.”

The Solution: The Fulcrum Manual CMM

In his search for a bench-top Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM), Steve found that conventional bridge-type CMMs were too large and complex, while articulating arms were overkill for Oberon’s needs. His search ended when he discovered the Fulcrum manual CMM in an engineering magazine and at the Southern Manufacturing Show in Farnborough.

Following a successful demonstration, Oberon Performance quickly placed an order, and the system was installed within two weeks. The Fulcrum has since transformed their workflow, enabling them to cross-check existing products for accuracy while streamlining the development of new motorcycle components.
